Deux Frères
Transformation of a Gin Destillery,Zurich, 2022-2024
Column / Wall
Mirror / Light
Table / Bar
High rooms, vaulted ceilings, pillars and arched windows characterized the space before and still prevail now. The existing qualities were absorbed and continued in the interior conversion, creating a link between the past memories of the SBB Werkstätten and the future inhabitants of the Deux Frères Gin Destillery. New elements echo the existing and contribute to the enriching redefenition of the space: a column becomes a mirror, a table becomes a bar, an arch becomes a light.
3 rooms
3 programs
The sequential spaces reflect the core elements within the production process: the making, the showing and the organizing. Curated openings and mirrored surfaces allow multi-layered views between the central showroom, the highly specialised production and the office. The play between structure and confusion that is inherent to the repetitive typology of the industrial site is further enhanced and framed.
